Privacy Policy for Skyfield

Maksym Romanenko built the Skyfield app as a Free app. This SERVICE is provided by Maksym Romanenko at no cost and is intended for use as is.

This page is used to inform visitors regarding my policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use my Service.

If you choose to use my Service, then you agree to the terms of this policy. The Personal Information that the app works with stays on your device — it is not collected, stored, or shared by me. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in my Terms of Use, which are accessible within Skyfield, unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

Skyfield does not collect, transmit, or store your personal information. Everything you create in the app — your logged sightings, photos, notes, and settings — is kept on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, that content is synced through your own private iCloud account (provided by Apple); I have no access to it.

To show you the sky for your area, Skyfield uses your device’s location and the current date and time. This is processed entirely on your device to compute sunrise, sunset, golden hour, daylight length, and moon phase — your location is never collected by me or sent to any server.

Photos you attach to a sighting are stored on your device only and are never uploaded.

Optional AI Description (off by default)

Skyfield can optionally generate a short written description of a sighting. This feature is off by default and is only ever used if you turn it on and tap it. When you do, the text you submit (your note plus that day’s sky details such as the moon phase and place name) is sent to an AI service solely to generate that description. Your photos are never sent. The submitted text is used only to produce the reply and is not stored or used for any other purpose. You can decline this feature without losing any core functionality, and you can turn it off again at any time in Settings.

Log Data

I do not collect Log Data. Skyfield does not include analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that gather your device information.

Cookies

Skyfield does not use cookies.

Service Providers

I do not employ third-party companies to collect or analyze your data. The only third-party service involved is Apple iCloud (CloudKit), used only if you enable sync, and only to store your data in your own private iCloud account — bound by Apple’s terms, with no access by me. If you choose to use the optional AI description feature, the text you submit is processed by an AI service for that single request only, as described above.

Security

I value your trust in using Skyfield. Because your data stays on your device (and, if you enable it, in your private iCloud), it benefits from your device’s and Apple’s protections. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.
