Candela is designed to collect nothing. Everything the app does happens on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers.

The short version: Candela does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Apple's privacy label for this app is “Data Not Collected.”

How the camera is used

Candela uses the camera strictly as a light sensor. To measure illuminance (lux), exposure value (EV), and color temperature, it reads each video frame's exposure metadata — ISO, shutter speed, lens aperture, and white-balance values — in real time.

• Camera frames are analyzed live in memory and are never written to disk, saved to your photo library, included in any recording, or transmitted off the device.
• Candela does not take photographs or video.
• Camera access is requested only when you use the meter, and you can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings. The rest of the app (Tools, Guide, saved Spots, Settings) remains usable without it.

Data stored on your device

The following stays on your device (and, if you have iCloud Backup enabled, in your own private Apple backup):

• Saved spots — readings you explicitly choose to save (a label you type and the measured lux, EV, and Kelvin values).
• Settings — units, calibration, plant light source, and preferences.

This data is never sent to the developer or anyone else. You can delete all of it at any time in Settings → Delete all saved spots, or by deleting the app.

Home Screen & Lock Screen widget

The Candela widget reads only your most recently saved reading from a private app-group container on your device. Nothing leaves the device.

Network

Candela makes no network requests for its functionality. The only web content is this Privacy page, the Terms of Use, and the Support page, which open in an in-app browser when you tap them; visiting those pages is subject to the policy of whoever hosts them.

Third parties

Candela contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. No data is shared with third parties because none is collected.
