Skyfield shows you what's in the sky tonight — a live stargazing forecast, sky conditions, aurora chance, sun & moon times, and an AI sky guide for exactly where you are.

Why does Skyfield ask for my location? To compute tonight's sunrise, sunset, moon, and the stargazing forecast for where you are, and to fetch local cloud cover. Your location stays on your device and is only sent (as approximate coordinates) to the free weather services that return your forecast. You can use the app without granting location — it falls back to a default place.
Does it work offline? Yes. Sun, moon, and the stargazing score are computed on your device, and the last sky conditions are cached, so the app stays useful with no connection.
Is the AI required? No. The AI Sky Guide is optional and off until you turn it on. Everything — including the Guide — works without it using on-device guidance. Only text is ever sent to the AI; your photos and exact location are never sent.
Where is my data stored? Your sightings, photos, and notes stay on your device (and in your own private iCloud if you enable sync). Skyfield has no account, no ads, and no tracking.
How do I log a sighting? Open the Sightings tab and tap the + button. Add a title, a photo, and a note.
